Hey all Tony ‘Grimmhelm’ Bishop reporting!
So this past weekend I was able to attend the MCM ExCel London Comic-con where four of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Austin St. John, Walter Jones, Karan Ashley and David Yost were in attendance along with a slew of other great names including three of the Red Dwarf cast who were a pleasure to meet.
Although I didn’t have the funds to have my picture taken with the Rangers I did get a little time to chat to them for a little while before I got moved along.
They expressed how much they were enjoying their stay over on the little island known as Britain and were always surprised by how many people come out to meet them always growing larger every year.
I also got around to asking them about the up-coming Zyuranger official subbed DVD to be released shortly by shout factory and they were curious to see its reception over here knowing that the Toku fanbase for Sentai and rider has exploded in recent years.
Karan Ashley expressed how she would actually like to sit down and watch the DVD when it was finally available to us.
As always it was very cool to meet the rangers and what was even cooler on a personal level was David Yost remembering me when I met him some time ago when my podcast Toku Strike had just launched and was shocked and pleased with how much the fanbase is growing due to shows like Sentai Rangers, Toku Strike and others and he hopes to see it grow even larger in the next few years with both the official and unofficial power rangers movies soon to be released.
Also at the show at the Bandai booth was the usual collection of Ranger toys within glass casing, as seen on pictures below (I apologise for the quality the con was extremely crowded and I had to make the pictures very quick).
I was actually surprised by the size of the legacy Tigerzord and Saba the Sabre. the Zorn in warrior mode is larger by an inch or so than its predecessor, beyond that I believe we have seen the rest of the toys before.
Of particular note there was actually Bandai staff at the counters giving a brief history lesson for the ranger toys, though dull to most people the popularity of the old dragonzord was legend and owning the ultrazord combination made you king of the playground.
I went to this talk too, but on. Different day (no one said anything about your zyuranger). I asked what their favourite of the later series was, and they did they didn’t really watch the show, but they’re proud of what they started.
This was the last day, I asked them specificity what they thought about it since its the show they were based on.
Still all good people to chat to 🙂
