BOOM! Rangers Return to Print

Back in June, BOOM! Studios announced a new ongoing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book in partnership with Saban Brands. On Thursday, Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Issue #0 of the new MMPR comic would be released in January. Also announced was the writer of the book, Kyle Higgins, best known for his previous work on Batman Eternal and Nightwing for DC Comics. The #0 issue will also include a short story written by Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Windblade,Toil and Trouble) and illustrated by Daniel Bayliss (Translucid).

Not revealed yet are the artist or any sort of story hints, with BOOM! Editor-in-Chief Mark Gagnon saying that “fans of BOOM! know we treat the existing properties we collaborate on with a focus on authenticity and quality. That’s the same sensibility we’re applying here. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have an awesome fan base and we can’t wait to show them how much fun we’re having.” The already released covers were illustrated by artist Goñi Montes and can be seen at the EW link below.

The last ongoing Power Rangers comic was Power Rangers Zeo in 1996 from Image Comics, which was canceled after just one issue. Prior to that was Marvel Comics’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 7-issue miniseries which concluded in March 1996. BOOM! Studios’ other licensed properties include Planet of the Apes, Hellraiser, and Warhammer 40,000.
