APRIL FOOLS: Switch On! Kamen Rider Fourze to come to America as Power Rider Apollo

Yes, you were right. It was all just an April Fools joke. This, I’m sure, surprises nobody. Thanks to everybody who was cool about it! No thanks to everybody who was a dick. We have a supplemental post “Debriefing the Power Rider Apollo Crash” coming out later today along with a supplemental podcast later this week. Below is the original April Fools post in its entirety:

We have an exclusive look tonight at what appear to be casting sides for Power Rider! Our source tells us that they are in the early stages of casting for the

show, which appears to be adapted from Kamen Rider Fourze. Images and a transcription of the sides are below.

Neil appears more reserved than Gentaro by description. Do keep in mind, however, that these are just sides, and therefore subject to change. Other things of note with these sides:

  • Saban seems to be sticking to the space theme
  • Most of the Kamen Rider Club appears to retain their personalities, albeit ‘Sabanified’
  • The Riders possess a fairly blatant Astronaut naming scheme

Our source implied that Koichi Sakamoto would serve as Executive Producer and that Amit Bhaumik would serve as a writer on the series. More details as they come.

Oh my god this can’t be real. This is fake, right?
    This has to be fake.

nope, its 100% legit. Power Rider is already registered by Saban and they already said Fourze was one of the Kamen Rider series they were hoping to adapt as Power Rider.

Cool. And I think, in a way, having Kamen Rider Fourze come to the US as Power Rider Apollo is kind of a smart idea. Here in america, the overall population is more familiar with the term Power Rangers. They could say that Power Riders are a spinoff of the franchise based off of Kamen Rider. If it is any good, they might make the other Heisei Era Kamen Riders into Power Riders.

You’re using “big one” to describe the wrong thing. You’re not referring to your staff, but a prank, which this is

This is beyond terribly fake. The point of a hoax is to make it believable, which this is not even close. I can’t believe you wasted your time on this, and our time making us read this.

You’re saying fourze is your childhood? Because if so, what are you like 9? And Saban already ruined childhoods, masked rider can’t be forgiven

A title page is never shown. Obvious prank is obvious. They typed this up themselves

so for everyone who thinks this is fake, where is your proof? seriously. Prove to us that this is fake

    • Scott

Well, no title page, no named source, and the fact that we’re 94 hours away from the prankiest day of the year. And no evidence that even if the document is real that you didn’t type it up yourself

It is kind of silly to do an April Fool’s prank on March 28th. I’ll admit, it hadn’t occurred to me, and you could fool a few more people (maybe announce that it WAS a joke on April Fool’s?). But like I said, I think that’s silly and people would just be pissed off. I hope it’s real, but I guess we’ll just see.

Saban is the one that messed up kamen rider the first time it was brought to the states so i hope the heck that this is not real.

“Power Rider?” This is almost as bad as “Super Megaforce.” This just proves all the more that Saban’s crew had a group lobotomy with this stupid crap.

First of all, I would really like this to be real. I really would. I don’t know how this show would come out, but Fourze may be my favorite super hero, and to have that property be recognizable here, complete with all the inexpensive toys that implies, would be a very cool thing for me.

That said, my Google trail leaves me some doubts. Googling “Power Rider Apollo” brings me here: http://fanficorama.com/blog/
You’ll see there that the blogger intends to write a fan adaptation called “Power Rider Apollo”. Once you back up a bit to here: http://fanficorama.com/ , you’ll find that the blogger in question is known as Phil aka fanficorama58. If you click his links and read his work, you’ll find material very similar to the stuff in these sides, particularly the punny and appropriate-to-the-subject-matter way he chooses names.

I’m pretty sure I’ve been had, but as a guy who wants to own a Fourze plushie, I hope it’s true!

I think this might be a fake. Saban did register Power Rider but it could mean something else. Plus too early to be April fool’s prank. I will wait and see.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence—you’ve got one, but not the other and it’s incumbent on you to prove the veracity of your claim to the reader, not the other way around. Even at its crappiest (and that says something) the writing for Megaforce isn’t that bad and is definitely sub-professional grade. Your claim is hurt by the extreme drop in writing quality as the pages continue—if it was, as suspected, produced in your office, you should hire a screenwriter next time. Also, your fulsome defense makes you look like you’re grasping at straws for people to believe it, so it would have been better for you to stay out of it. I want it to be true, but I doubt it. Maybe you were duped by someone pranking you? I’ll grant you that SGC Power Rangers LLC did register a number for trademarks for “Power Rider” on July 24, 2011, but this was well before Fourze’s September premiere so, conceivably, they could have done it thinking they might adapt OOOs or it’s just a placeholder for a nebulous future attempt at adapting a to-be-determined Kamen Rider series.

Fuck you! IF this is fucking real then Saban can go to hell. I will really protest. Stop stealing Japanese people hero and twist them into some weird hero! For the sake of me and thousands other tokusatsu fan’s sanity!
IF this is a joke, then this is too fucking much. This shit fucking almost gives a fucking heart attack. This ain’t joking matter, fuckers.

When Saban’s Jungle Fury warped Gekirangers martial arts school into a pizza parlor setting was pretty much the deaths nail for me in believing Saban was really interested in bringing real Japanese entertainment to America. Just broadcast the original shows with subtitles like they do in other countries around the world. ,

    • Scott

Well, that and the fact that Power Rangers was always different from Super Sentai. It was adapted, not translated or dubbed like you see with anime or foreign films.

Saban is not INTERESTED in bringing “real Japanese entertainment to America”. He’s interested in taking a Japanese show and making it something AMERICAN. If he WERE interested in what you said, he WOULD broadcast the subtitled show.

Get your facts straight Tyler. Disney and Saban are two different companies, not one in the same. Saban brought back the property in 2010 after Disney severely mismanaged it.

It makes me laugh because you either cannot read, or you actually believe this is real. Not sure which is sadder.

I read quite well, having a sophomore in college reading level, according to the Accelerated Reading program my junior high school used. And I didn’t say I believed this. In fact, I’m just as skeptical as you are. We’ll see if Saban has anything to do with this and if we are right, then hey we can tell others that we knew it. I was fond of the Masked Rider tie in back in the MMPR days. I’m not too pleased with how MegaForce is being handled, either.

Saban had nothing to do with KR:Dragon Knight Addness did. Addness was more sucessful with Kamen Rider than Saban was. Call me skeptical but I dont see how Saban could pull this off.

I don’t know who to believe all the comments say that its a joke but i’m not so sure. I actually do think they will turn fourze into power rider but not with the the name power rider kamen or masked rider is fine but not power kids will think its gonna be a knockoff of power rangers

Think marketing! Masked Rider and Kamen Rider were commercial failures in America! Power Rangers has lasted 20 years! Marketing it as a spinoff would be to their benefit.

Because money, sillypants. Besides, he seems to like to keep busy– He might be interested in executive producing this and trying to keep an adaptation of his earlier work intact while continuing to direct!

      Reply
      • Scott

They tried that in Power Rangers’s 3rd year, as a direct spinoff no less. Remember “A Friend in Need”? They sure aint goin to dedicate 1 episode to Kamen Rider in a Power Rangers 20th Anniversary season

        • TV's Kyle

And why not? With a high school setup for both Megaforce and Power Rider Apollo, it’d be very easy to do “gracefully”.
