ChloĆ« Grace Mortez has recently stated in an interview that she has not been contacted to appear in the upcoming 2016 Power Rangers film. Given that she has not been contacted, it is clear that she has not yet been cast as the Pink Ranger at this point in time, if it all. Mortez states “I keep hearing these reports that I’m apparently starring in a movie with Liam Hemsworth…which is cool, but I don’t know the answer.” Hemsworth’s involvement in the film is presently uncertain, as well; both actors’ names became attached to the project as a result of a “fan cast,” which has no bearing on the actual film production.
Jason David Frank of Power Rangers notoriety has, on the other hand, actively been in contact with Saban Brands about the possibility of an appearance in the film. Frank is known amongst fans of the franchise for portraying Dr. Thomas Oliver (the Red Zeo Ranger and the first Red Turbo Ranger) through various installments of the show over the last twenty years. Frank states “I probably will be involved. They talked to me about it. I don’t know how much I am involved, but for sure cameos at least in the reboot movie.”
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is set to release on July 22, 2016, and is written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller. Roberto Orci recently left the project to direct Star Trek III, but producers Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Allison Shearmur, Eric Feig, and Jim Miller round out the production staff.
