Entertainment Weekly has released the first image of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repula from the upcoming Power Rangers movie. This updated incarnation of Rita Repulsa features a great degree of green in her color scheme. Banks says this of her character: “It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa. We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.”
This accompanies the Power Rangers logo unveiled last week at CinemaCon:
The film stars Becky G (Trini/Yellow Ranger), RJ Cyler (Billy/Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), Dacre Montgomery(Jason/Red Ranger), and Ludi Lin (Zach/Black Ranger) in the coming film. Becky G is a recording artist who has contributed to several feature film soundtracks in the past. Cyler has previously appeared in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Lin has appeared in the Netflix seriesMarco Polo,while Scott has recently appeared in the box office hit The Martian and the television series Terra Nova (alongside Power Rangers RPM‘s Eka Darville), while Montgomery is known for his appearance in the Australian short film “BETRAND THE TERRIBLE.” The film is also set to feature the aforementioned Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), whose filmography is too extensive to list here.
The Power Rangers film is due to hit theaters on January 13, 2017. Dean Israelite serves as the film’s director, with Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz serving as writers, and Saban Brands’ Haim Saban and Brian Casentini, and Lionsgate’s Alison Shearmur serve as executive producers.
